『ハリーポッター』と20歳の私

My first experience with Harry Potter was when I was going on twenty years old. This series is loved by people around the world. Like them, I was attracted to the story’s magical world. Sometimes, I think that I wish that I had come across this story around the same time when Harrys enrolled at Hogwarts, the school in the story where wizardry and witchcraft were taught, because I can’t enjoy stories with the sensitivity and innocence of a child. Adults tend to be critical of books they read because they compare them with each other. Children just enjoy the story. If I had a Time-Turner – a magical time travel device from the story – and could go back to the past about ten years ago, I would put all of the Harry Potter books next to my pillow. But I am studying at the Department of English Literature. Therefore, I have the perfect environment to research Harry Potter. My college life overall has been pretty unimpressive. However, at least I have found what I want to study.

Actually, before ever reading the books, I watched the movies. After that, I read the original novels, watched the play Harry Potter and the Cursed child, and visited the Warner Brothers Studio Tour Tokyo. Nowadays, I research treatises regarding Harry Potter. For example, I read a thesis about the gender, history and other analyses of the story. There are many points of view about the story, so they are very interesting. My encounters and interest in Harry Potter have changed my attitude towards English. It had been my understanding that English was a subject to study. I can’t say I really love English, but now I use it as a means to learn about what I want to know about Harry Potter. So I am kind of forced to improve my English because many things connected with Harry Potter consist of English. There are not many scholarly articles in Japanese related to the series, so I have to do my research mostly in English. I really love Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling’s words because they are very beautiful and sometimes interesting. I’m looking forward to studying Harry Potter in greater detail.

私は20歳の誕生日を目前にして、初めて「ハリーポッター」という作品に触れました。世界中の人を虜にする作品だけあって私もすぐに物語の世界に夢中になりました。時々ホグワーツに入学するくらいの年に読んでいたらどんなだっただろうと思います。タイムターナーを手に入れたら私はきっと11歳の自分の枕元にハリーポッターシリーズの本をそっと置いて帰ります。なぜなら私はもう子供の感性でこの作品に触れることは出来ないからです。ですが私は今、英文学科で勉強しており、来年はイギリス文学を365体育投注するゼミに入ります。そのため、「ハリーポッター」について365体育投注するための環境が整っています。そんな中でこの作品に出会えたことはとても幸運な事だと思っています。大学で何を365体育投注するかがパッとしない日々を過ごしていた中で、やっとこれだ！と思えるものに出会えた気がします。

私が「ハリーポッター」に最初に触れたのは映画でした。見始めてすぐに惹きこまれ、原作の小説を読み、その後を描いた舞台作品「ハリーポッターと呪いの子」を観劇し、つい先日念願のワーナーブラザーズスタジオツアー東京に行きました。最近は「ハリーポッター」に関する365体育投注論文をデータベースで探して読んでいます。歴史、ジェンダー、物語分析など様々な視点から365体育投注されており、とても面白いものばかりです。

私はこの作品に出会ってから”英語に対する姿勢”が変わりました。今までは英語は勉強するものという認識でした。しかし、今私は英語を”手段”として使っています。「ハリーポッター」に関する多くのことが英語で成り立っています。実際日本語で様々なことを調べましたが、すぐに底がつき、原語で調べざるを得ませんでした。何よりJ?Kローリングの紡ぐ英語がとても美しく、時に面白くて私は大好きです。これからさらに詳しく365体育投注することが楽しみです。
