私が外国語を学ぶ理由

I’d like to tell you about why I study foreign languages. I have two reasons.

First, I want to communicate with people all over the world in their first language. I found this sentence in my book when I was a junior high school student, “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes his heart.” This famous saying was said by Nelson Mandela, the first black head of state in South Africa. I was moved by his words. I have wanted to communicate with people in their first language since then, but speaking a different language is hard.

It is very important to understand foreign languages because many foreign people have started returning to Japan due to COVID-19 restrictions being lifted. I meet them while working at my part-time job. I always try to say something in their first language like, “Thank you!”. I think it is important for us to use a person’s first language because it feels more sincere and heartful.

The second reason I study foreign languages is so that I can work as ground staff. I’d like to show Japanese hospitality to people from all over the world. It is so difficult for travelers to pass the boarding procedure. I want them to be relaxed when traveling in Japan so they will come back again.

It’s essential to communicate in a foreign language. I want to keep on learning foreign languages to use heartful language and make my dream come true.

今回は私が外国語を勉強する理由についてお話したいと思います。それには2つの理由があります。

まず、世界中の人と彼らの母国語でコミュニケーションをとりたいからです。中学生の頃読んだ本の中にこんな一文がありました。"If you talk to the man in a language he understand, that goes to his head.(もしあなたが彼の母国語で話しかければ、それは彼の心に届く。)"この有名な言葉は、南アフリカ共和国の黒人初の国家元首であるネルソン?マンデラ氏の言葉です。私はこの言葉に非常に感銘を受けました。それ以来、相手の母国語でコミュニケーションを取りたいと思うようになりましたが、やはり違う言語を話すということは非常に難しいと感じることが多いです。

365体育投注による制限が緩和されたことで多くの外国人が来日しており、外国語の需要は高まっています。私はアルバイト先で外国人観光客と接することが多いので、「ありがとうございます！」などをなるべく相手の母国語で言うように心がけています。母国語を用いたコミュニケーションは、心がこもっているように感じてもらいやすいので、非常に重要なことだと実際に感じました。

私が外国語を勉強する理由の2つ目は、グランドスタッフとして働くためです。そして、世界中の人に日本のおもてなしを体験してもらいたいと思っています。たとえば旅行者が搭乗手続き等をこなすのはとても大変で不安なことですが、日本での旅行でリラックスしてもらい、また来たいと思ってもらえるようなお手伝いをしたいと思っています。

これからの時代、外国語でのコミュニケーションは欠かすことができません。これからも外国語を学んで思いやりのある言葉を使い、夢を実現したいです。
